Love Norwood Day - 2 September 2018

Love Norwood Day a huge success!

As in previous years, hundreds of residents and visitors enjoyed shopping for arts and crafts, eating yummy food, and listening to the wonderful sounds of local musicians on Sunday the 2nd of September. But this year's Love Norwood Day will be remembered as the one where kids and dogs took over Norwood Park.

Children were spoiled for choice - My World Nursery School provided children's entertainment, including a jumping castle and painting, and Clamber Club provided an opportunity for tug-of-war, an obstacle course and much else besides. A number of other nursery schools were represented, including the Garden Road Montessori, Houghton Nursery School and Little Ashford Playschool.

Our neighbourhood clearly cares about our pooches, judging by the number of dogs who visited with their humans. And stalls supporting dogs did not disappoint either: Pam Golding ran a collection for animal welfare organisations, CLAW and Woodrock animal rescue were represented, as were Pekingese and Border Collie Rescue, and dog owners were also able to indulge their furry friends with treats from Mimi & Munch and many other stalls.

This was all made possible by CAP, who generously donated to make the event possible and kept us safe, and Medi-Response who ensured that medical assistance could be provided at a moment's notice.

Love Norwood Day is a community event that promotes local businesses, fosters community spirit, and improves the quality of our public spaces, and all profits will be used to maintain Norwood Park. This year we managed to raise over R30,000 to continue our Norwood Park beautification projects!

We thank our sponsors: CAP, Medi-Response, The Factory on Grant, Pam Golding, SPAR, CityNet, Garden Road Montessori Preschool, Warrior Paints, Loof, and Baha Taco.

Have a look at what fun we had:

Love Norwood Day 2017 is a huge success!

This year’s Love Norwood Day, brought to you by CAP and the Norwood Orchards Residents Association, was a huge success!

Hundreds of residents and visitors came out in warm Spring sunshine to enjoy yummy food, browse arts and crafts, and meet local community organisations.

Our entertainment line-up had the crowd tapping their feet and singing along to Cindy Alter, Jamie-Lee Sexton and The Vast Oddity.

Kids were entertained with a jumping castle, colouring in competitions, pizza making, tug-of-war and obstacle courses.

And, of course, the event was all about the Park. Love Norwood Day provides NORA with the funds to keep Norwood Park clean and repair its infrastructure.

This year, with the generous support of our sponsors CAP, Medi Response, The Factory on Grant, The Purple Pomegranate, Super-A Spar, CityNet, Leapfrog, The Lamp Post, Baha Taco, and Loof Coffee, Adrienne Hersch, we raised an amazing R52,000!

We were shocked at the state of the ablution blocks in the Park, and repairing these and making them brighter and more beautiful will be the first project we are going to tackle – watch this space!

Local businesses step up to support Love Norwood Day

Bringing community together is so much easier when our local businesses share and support our vision.

As preparations for this year's event kick-up a gear, we're proud to announce Love Norwood Day's 2017 sponsors.

CAP

Launched in 2006, CAP’s dynamic and innovative take on crime fighting has yielded resounding success across all areas incorporated into the scheme, reducing crime by a staggering 80 to 90%.

For the past three years, CAP has supported our community as a headline sponsor of Love Norwood Day.

CAP will once again ensure that Love Norwood Day participants only have to worry about having fun!

Super-A SPAR

Super-A Norwood SPAR has been a part of our community since 1939! We love the convenience, variety and freshness at Norwood SPAR, and are thrilled they're a proud sponsor of Love Norwood Day.

For the first time ever, they'll host a biltong and dry-wors stall, bringing their convenience into the Park.

The Factory

The Factory on Grant is one of the coolest spaces in our neighbourhood, with a restaurant, bakery, art gallery, and boutique stores opening on to its wonderful courtyard.  We're excited they've decided to sponsor us this year and host their pop-up bakery on the day.

And after all of the shopping and eating, grab a seat and a sundowner at Crafter's – the only rooftop bar in the neighbourhood – for the most spectacular sunset this side of the M1.

The Purple Pomegranate

Norwood’s newest boutique store is unique to Joburg – a fabulous florist, gift shop and nail bar, all in one! Probably Grant Avenue’s cutest shop, and a proud sponsor of Love Norwood Day, The Purple Pomegranate will join us in the the park with delightful pop-up florist.

CityNet

CityNet are leaders in the management of property and the provision of property related services. Their head office is on Grant Avenue, and they have been an anchor in turbulent periods on our high street. So we’re thrilled they are also a sponsor of Love Norwood Day!

Besides for CAP, CityNet, Super-A Spar, The Purple Pomegranate and The Factory on Grant, four other great neighbourhood businesses have pledged their support for Love Norwood Day.

Loof

Loof is Joburg’s coolest coffee shop, and they will be bringing this vibe and their superb coffee to the Park on Love Norwood Day.

Baha Taco

Baha Taco has brought the freshness and deliciousness of Mexican street food to Grant Avenue, and they’ll be offering a wonderful selection in Norwood Park on Love Norwood Day too.

The Lamp Post

We love the vintage style and the friendly staff of The Lamp Post, and we're thrilled that they will be bringing this to Love Norwood Day as one of our sponsors.

Leapfrog

Leapfrog has in very short space of time developed a reputation for trust and client service in real estate in our neighbourhood. And now they’re showing Norwood Park some love by being one of this year’s sponsors!
